2020 looked A LOT different than anyone everrrr imagined, but we tried to make the best of it!! There were some sad times, some weird times, some stressful times, but also some fun times, some restful times, and some really thankful times. In a year like none other, I'm thankful for health, family, friends & Christ!
Here's what our year looked like!
January
We kicked off the year with the Carpenter girls (missing Raina!) have a spa weekend in Chicago. Thankful for this family I married into.
We of course played in the snow :)
and the big boys went to a Harlem Globetrotter game with Papa & Cici!
February
Nate & I got out to an arcade & dinner for my birthday :)
I spent lots of time with this munchkin...
We went roller-skating for my nephew's birthday party and it put me back to my elementary days when we would go roller-skating!
We celebrated Valentine's Day with class parties & matching shirts!
I took these 2 big boys to a mommy/son dance and we had so much fun!
I laugh every time I see this picture. A few minutes before a very stuck car in the snow...the whole situation just makes me laugh. I love doing life with these girls!!
March
In March we set out for Florida on spring break. We were on vacation when COVID started spreading massively and when things started to shut down. I remember we were in our Air BnB in the evening and Nate got notification that the NBA had suspended their season due to Covid and there were talks of flights being cancelled, and lockdowns coming. I just prayed that we could get home safely on our flight and not have to drive in a car for 13 hours with the kids!!! Thankfully we were able to fully enjoy our vacation, flew home (although the airport was definitely a little eerie) and the kids went back to school for like a week I think before they went virtual for the rest of the year.
April
With most of the country in lockdown, we celebrated Maddox's 4th birthday at home, but had family surprise all of us with a drive by party. They had signs, music, dropped off presents & sang to Maddox. It made him feel really special and I'm super thankful for the thought that went into it.
May
We celebrated the boys finishing out their school year virtually. This meant Jacoby didn't get an official preschool graduation ceremony, but his sweet teacher dropped off a graduation hat & goodie bag & we celebrated that way!
With lots of restaurants still shut down, we ordered to go or fast food & did car picnics!
As things slowly opened up, we were able to see some family & friends and spend some time at the pool as the summer season came.
and a huge highlight was getting to finally meet our newest nephew, Cole Nathan!!! It was so hard to not visit them in the hospital when he was born, but we soaked up the snuggles when we finally were able to meet him. I just LOVEEEEE sweet baby snuggles. He's just a doll!
June
We spent time playing with friends and got lots of time outside at the parks once they opened back up.
We celebrated my most favorite person on Father's Day...
They mastered open mouth camera shots haha
and we met & snuggled baby Shay!!! Kendry loves babies and insisted on holding her and giving her a bottle.
we ate lots of ice cream because what is summer without ice cream?!
and we got lots of boat rides in too!
July
We started July with celebrating 4th of July. While normally we would go see fireworks, they were all cancelled due to the pandemic. So we spent the day at the pool with friends & did our own fireworks with family in the evening. I really missed seeing the big fireworks this year, but at least we got to see some while driving home!
outdoor dining open meant girls nights with drinks & good convos. The incredible friendships I have is not lost on me! Polos & zoom calls got us through lockdown, but nothing beats face to face girls nights & just doing life together.
The zoo was back open and we were so thankful!
and of course the beach was the perfect place to socially distance & still enjoy the summer!
July can't pass by without celebrating my sweet Nate!! We celebrated with a beach evening & dinner at sunset.
August
Jacoby started KINDERGARTEN...virtually, of course. Virtual school was tough but a great school and great teacher helped us get through for the first 3 weeks, and then he went in person and LOVES it. Thankful for where we are, and how the school has handled it all.
This boy started pre-K in person and was so excited about school. He couldn't wait to see his friends and teachers.
Even though school was in session, we tried to soak up all the time we could outside in the beautiful weather. Fishing, boat rides, and visits to the beach!
The boys started soccer...and Nate & I had so much fun watching them!!
and this one was just living the life :)
September
we celebrated a friend's engagement...
went camping...
practiced riding our bikes...
and tried to hang on to summer by soaking in the last boat rides of the season...
October
we were able to get a little family vacation in to Great Wolf Lodge and LOVED it.
we also did all the fall things- including Amazing Acres for games, pumpkins, and a hayride.
we did our annual Halloween cookie decorating with cousins...
and celebrated Halloween by trick or treating with many of our neighbors getting creative and doing it at a safe social distance. This year we had a ninja, Spiderman, and a shark- which Kendry insisted on calling baby shark do doo 😃
November

we started out the month with playing at the park after school...
Kendry & I soaked up our "mommy & Kendry days"
and we ended the month with our first snowfall :)
Thanksgiving got cancelled for both of our families due to the increase in COVID cases and we also had family members on both sides that tested positive.
December
We kicked off December as always, with a North Pole breakfast complete with matching jammies :)
we found the perfect new spot for walking trails & getting some energy out OUTSIDE.
We did some holiday baking...
and made our drive to look at Christmas lights as festive as possible!
Christmas Eve we listened to our church service online...
and we had a white Christmas morning with 3 very excited little boys!!!
We weren't able to get family pictures done, so the card we sent out was a picture we took at home with my iphone and it might be my favorite Christmas card ever :)
New Year's Ever was also spent at home (COVID...ughhh) but we made the best of it and we all stayed up to ring in the new year!!
Alright 2020, you were something else BUT we are thankful for another year of health & time with family. Looking forward to an even better 2021!!
xox,
Naomi
