One of our very favorite traditions is the North Pole breakfast!!! I usually try to do it on the first Saturday of December, but Nate was out of town so we made in a brinner on a Sunday night and it worked out well!!
This year I kept it pretty simple because it was a "oh wait, Nate will be gone and we don't have any other good times to do this" scramble. I made red & green pancakes, which the kids thought was so cool. Never underestimate the power of food coloring! We of course had mini donuts, sausage, cinnamon rolls, fruit, etc. We talked about the Christmas season, why we celebrate (Jesus!), what we are looking forward to, etc. I didn't get many pictures and the ones I did take aren't great since it was dark outside but I took a few! It's always a great way to kick off the season.
I always get the boys a new ornament and matching jammies for the breakfast too. This year worked out well since we did a dinner...after dinner they showered, put on their new jammies & then decorated their tree upstairs in the loft. Unfortunately I couldn't find good ornaments in store so I had to order, so they were a little late this year. I try to get them to represent something about their year. Jacoby got a football, since it's become a new obsession this year. Maddox got a Kindergarten ornament, and Kendry got a Preschool ornament. Every year when they decorate the tree, they love looking at their ornaments and talking about them.
If you haven't done a North Pole breakfast, try it! It's easy, can be done however you like, and is definitely a highlight for all of us. I'm realizing I'm just now posting it with only 10 days left till Christmas! haha. Whether you do it at the beginning of the the holiday season or not, it's FUN!!!
10 days to go...I should probably double and triple check my lists!!!
xox,
Naomi
