We got back from San Antonio, TX last week and we had SO MUCH FUN. It was our last little vacation as a family of 4 and I'm so glad we took time to do it!
We picked San Antonio kind of randomly, but Nate suggested it and I was all about it! We just wanted somewhere that was warmer than Indiana and somewhere that we could lots of fun kids activities, so San Antonio fit the bill. Here's a little recap of our trip!
SATURDAY
Saturday morning we woke up early, loaded up the car, and tried to put the boys into the car with the hopes that they would keep sleeping. They didn't, but were troopers for the whole trip to Chicago.
SATURDAY
Saturday morning we woke up early, loaded up the car, and tried to put the boys into the car with the hopes that they would keep sleeping. They didn't, but were troopers for the whole trip to Chicago.
We got checked in with just a few minutes to watch the planes take off and land before we got on the flight.
The boys did great on the plane! They were entertained by books, snacks, new cars and then a Netflix show that helped Maddox ( and Nate 😉) fall asleep!
We got in and hit up Shake Shack for lunch right away. We were all super hungry and this hit the spot! Also, sitting outside in the shade while it was 90 degrees was SO refreshing. Indiana had been like 30 and COLD!
I love these boys!
Once we got checked into our hotel, we hit up the pool and swam a little bit before late naps!
After our super late naps, the boys had energy so we went to the Riverwalk and ate some Tex Mex for dinner and then walked around and of course got special treats afterward. It's not vacation unless you get dessert almost every night, right?!
SUNDAY
Sunday we spent almost all day at the zoo. The San Antonio Zoo might be the best zoo I've ever been to. It had SO MANY animals, but was laid out really well (although I will admit their signs and maps are bad...), and the animals they had were just awesome. We love all animals in this house but Jacoby realllllly loves reptiles (ugh!). They had an entire building dedicated to reptiles and it had the biggest snake I've ever seen...it made me want to vomit 😝 and the biggest iguana, which was super cool. Jacoby was living his best life there and it was so fun to watch.
They had tons of other animals, including lots of large animals like elephants, tigers, lions, giraffes, rhinos (Coby loves them too!). Maddox's favorite was the jaguar that just kept pacing right in front of us!
Daddy and his mini-me!
They had a bald eagle and we could see it so well and it was beautiful!
He saw someone carrying around cotton candy and it was ALL HE WANTED. We spent like 20 minutes looking around until we found it ;)
If you ask Jacoby what his favorite animal at the zoo was, he'd tell you the T Rex. So we took him to a zoo FILLED with real, live animals and his favorite was this robot dinosaur at the end. Also, I'm pretty sure it's not a TRex haha.
Both boys passed out about 5 minutes into the drive. Thank the LORD. To be honest, the trip to the zoo was not our best time and it was exhausting. We felt like both of the boys were in horrible moods and just didn't want to listen. I chalked it up to them being extra sleepy from traveling and so we planned for a more relaxed day the next day. Traveling with littles can be really fun but some days are just HARD...whether you're home OR on vacation ;)
MONDAY
We spent all of our Monday morning at MedPoint to get Maddox's stitches out. I know I probably could have taken them out myself but with it being on his forehead, I just really wanted to make sure they were done properly and if anything else needed to be done, it would be taken care of by a professional!
After MedPoint and lunch, we took in a little history :) There are multiple Missions in San Antonio, but we decided to just do 2. So we started at San Jose. History is Nate's thing. He loves it and while I don't really enjoy reading about history, being at the actual places and learning it that way is much more fun.
The thing I loved about the San Jose Mission was that it was super relaxed and kid-friendly. It was easy to take a stroller, there was tons of grass for the kids to run in and burn off some energy. Also, the weather was 73 and sunny... It put everyone in a good mood!
After San Jose, we parked downtown and visited The Alamo. There was lots of space here too and it was beautiful. We enjoyed the little water fountain and threw a couple pennies in.
We hit up the Riverwalk again that evening and burned some energy at a little flower garden on the side of the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is HUGE and goes on forever, but there is NO railing, so we didn't let the boys walk much. This little garden was the perfect area to play because it was set off to the side, there was a brick patio area and there were lots of sticks and rocks #myboyswerehappy
We figured we needed to eat some good BBQ while in Texas, so we enjoyed dinner at The County Line. We sat outside, right next to the Riverwalk and it was the perfect evening for it. We had such perfect weather the whole time!
My big boy passed OUT.
TUESDAY
After a more relaxing Tuesday, we made all day Wednesday dedicated to Seaworld.
We started off at the Sea Lion show and then headed straight for the Shamu show. We sat in the Splash Zone and definitely got wet. Jacoby was ok with it for the most part but it scared Maddox when he got drenched so Nate took him to the top for the rest of the show :)
We walked around and saw allllll the animals, ate lunch and played a pirate ship game that the boys in no way understood but HAD to play :) haha.
We made sure to hit up the playground for awhile and the boys ran out some major energy!
We snapped quick family pic on the way out and both boys fell asleep in the car again within 5 minutes.
We spent Tuesday night at The Rainforest Cafe. Definitely not a San Antonio thing, but it was at the request of Jacoby. The boys did a really good job and we all crashed that night. Nate & I told each other, we need a vacation from this vacation :) Walking all over all day with the boys is tiring. I'll be eating my words when Kendry gets here, I know it! haha.
Wednesday
Wednesday morning we checked out of our hotel, ate a quick lunch at Potbelly, and then went to the Doseum for the afternoon. It's the kid's museum and it was amazinggg. I SO wish we had something like this back home! We only spent about 2-3 hours there but we could have spent even more time.
The weather was beautiful AGAIN and playing in this huge water table area was really cool. I had no idea there would be water and just decided to let them be little and get wet if they wanted. Thankfully they didn't soak themselves :)
At the end, we found this ball room with a million balls (seriously, so many!) and you could put them in all different little tubes and they'd get sucked up and shot out somewhere else. Out of the entire museum, this is the place we spent the most time!
After the Doseum, we checked into the airport and got some dinner. Jacoby said "mommy, take a pic of us!" So I did just that. Then they did silly faces.... 😊
The flight home was a disaster...both boys were so tired, our Netflix account got logged out and it wouldn't let us log back in, and Maddox laid down on the airplane floor about 500 times.
But as we were descending, both boys fell asleep on us and stayed asleep while we got off the plane, got our luggage, got on the bus to the parking garage and only woke up when we changed them into their jammies before loading into the car. They slept the whole car ride home (we got home at 1:30am), transferred right to bed and slept till about 9:30 the next morning.
We packed a lot into our days but we had so much fun. It was exhausting but super fun and the best way to celebrate before Kendry arrives!
xox,
Naomi
