Weekend Recap {July 4th}

The Carpenters had such a fun weekend celebrating this country & the freedom it gives us!

Starting off on Friday...

We helped out my sister and watched our nephew, Leo, for most of the day on Friday.  We played Sorry Sliders and then Nate & Leo went to help Eric & Amanda move into their new house, while I stayed with Coby while he napped. Ya'll...naps are crucial around these parts :)

Then we loaded up and went to the pool.  We hadn't ever been to this pool...and I wasn't necessarily "disappointed", but I was a little indifferent about it.

It had a kiddie wading pool that I thought would be perfect for Jacoby.  Wrong.  The water was seriously freezing.  Neither Nate nor I wanted to get in, so I can't really blame Coby for screaming as soon as his little toes touched the water.

Leo loved it though.  He's to the age (8...almost 9), where he knows if he stays in a for a little bit, it's worth it!  They had a big slide that Leo told me "goes super fast", and a diving board...

I'm glad Leo had lots of fun, and the rest of us had fun watching him and eating snacks :) haha.

We came home, relaxed, ate grilled veggie tacos, Nate's homemade fresh guacamole with some chips, and just relaxed around the house in the evening.

Once we put Coby to bed, Nate & I watched Parenthood. The addiction is real. We are watching on Netflix and it's serious business. I actually told Nate on Friday night "I want to watch A LOT of Parenthood".  So that's exactly what we did :)

Saturday we went to Nate's Grandma's family "yearly reunion" thing... haha :) We ate some BBQ, played on the swings and Coby got to try out a few new toys!

 be still my heart :)

Coby is a huge fan of BBQ food. Corn casserole, pulled pork, and chicken...He loved every single bite! That's my boy!

Saturday evening we met up with my sister, Abby, and her husband Matt and my mom for dinner & fireworks.  I didn't want to get to the fireworks late, so I planned for us to get there a little early.  Well I didn't realize how late the fireworks would start.  We waited around for awhile but had a nice grassy area for Jacoby to crawl around on.

Eating grass + playing with the stroller was entertainment enough for Coby.

I was pretty confident he would love the fireworks since he had seen some at a neighbors house & was very intrigued.

...but this little one fell asleep about 3 minutes before the fireworks started! A for effort though, right?

His face...haha!

He slept the whole way through the firework show, but was woken up by the finale...and started screaming-- because who wants to be woken up to that?

He fell asleep right away in the car and slept soundly the rest of the night.

Sunday we woke up and went to church.  He does SO well in the nursery, and I'm thankful for that.  I kept thinking during the service, how lucky I feel to live in the USA.  I know a lot of people find many things wrong with the USA, but the fact that we can worship Christ freely is incredible and a privilege that not everyone has.  Thank you Lord for a land of freedom.

Sunday afternoon meant a 2 hour nap for the whole Carpenter household.  Why are Sunday afternoon naps the best? Not sure why but they totally are.

Sunday evening we went over to Nate's grandparents house for a cookout & fireworks.  We had decided not to stay for fireworks because it'd be too late.  Considering we were out till 11:30 the night before, we didn't want to push our luck with Coby 2 nights in a row!

However, while we were at his grandparents house...a random thing happened... I'll try to keep the story short.

About a week ago, I had this "epiphany".  I'm scared of a lot of things. Truly, I am.

I want to be someone who conquers their fears,
and I want to encourage Jacoby to do the same.

Nate's Uncle Len has a private plane and has taken just about everyone for a ride. Except for me.  He asks me almost every time I see him, "Naomi...when are we going flying?" My answer is always "Never, Len. Sorry :) "

With this epiphany in my head...I told myself, I gotta do it!

I told Len on Saturday "I think I want to go flying with you". Nate overheard this and this was his response "What??? Since when? Who are you?"

hahaha. Seriously, my fear is real!

It's a dumb fear {I know this} because I've flown many times...just always in a commercial plane. Never in a tiny 4 seater private plane.

On Sunday while we were at Gramps & Grams house, the conversation came up again...

Len said "Let's go right now.  The weather is perfect!"

There was no time to prepare myself mentally, which was probably a good thing. I told him as long as Nate & Jacoby could come too, I'm down.

Coby screamed while we were taxing before take off, but once we were in the air, he fell asleep on Nate's shoulder. Sweet boy :) It was a far cry from scary. I have NO idea why I was so terrified before!  It was beautiful, we saw the sunset and it was such a smooth ride.

Reminding myself to take risks and reminiscing on a fabulous weekend to remember!

Hope yours was just as good!

xox,

Naomi
