Your Aunt Susie asked me the other day what did I thought your birthday party would be.....
hold.on.
She's a planner & she works retail hours, so yes she needs to know in advance.
But I can't think about your 1 year birthday party yet.
You're still my little baby.
Every mom says it. Every mom wants time to slow down. That saying "The days are long but the years are short"...yup. Sigh. I don't have to plan just yet, but I know it's right around the corner.
............ANYways, back to the 8 month update!
Your Favorites: mommy & daddy, Benny, music & being sung to, bath time, other kids/babies, straws/cups, giving kisses, being tickled, and cheerios!
Your Not-So-Favorites: getting dressed [i think this is the thing you hate most!}, getting into your car seat and stroller {once you're in you're fine, but getting you in is a battle} :)
Eat:
You love to eat. You still eat mostly purees, but cheerios & whole wheat ritz crackers make you VERY happy. Sometimes I have to give you a few cheerios in between the last few bites of your veggies :)
We are basically holding off on all fruits for a couple months, due to your weird reaction. Dr. Dhaemers said we could try again in a few months, but that he thinks your body just isn't ready yet. He said it's something you should outgrow, which is good to hear! I'm happy because I let you try some watermelon and you didn't get the weird rash you normally do with fruits! I feel so bad for you that you don't get to try many fruits, so knowing you can have watermelon is a good thing, especially during the summer months! Looks like you'll get a lot of bananas & watermelon :)
We have also made the transition to all formula (minus the feeding when you wake up at about 5am). You did SO good with the transition. I was worried that you were going to have a hard time with it and that you wouldn't like the formula, but you proved us wrong! I mixed 1/2 formula, 1/2 breastmilk for about 3 days and you gobbled it up quickly! I had your daddy feed you your first bottle of all formula, and you ate it as if there was no difference!
I was also worried that it was going to be a hard transition on my body, but I never overproduced and things went really smoothly...which gave me more confirmation that it was the right time. With you making such a smooth transition and my body as well, I know that it was what was best for us!
Sleep:
Sleep has still been pretty consistent. You go down around 9:30/10:00 and sleep till about 5 or 6, so still around 8 hours straight, and then you go back down till 8 or so. I would LOVE for you to drop that comfort feeding around 5/6, and it's probably something we will work on this month. We have come a long way as far as sleeping goes, but I know it can get better!
Your naps are still pretty consistent with about 45min - 1 hr nap in the morning and a 2 hr nap in the afternoon. You have mastered getting from a laying down position to sitting up, and then back down again... in the picture above (of you on the monitor), I put you down for your nap & I looked at the monitor 5 minutes later and this was you! Just sitting up talking to yourself. You obviously had important things to do before you were ready to sleep!
Your afternoon nap is wonderful because it really helps me be able to get things done around the house. When you wake up from your nap, you're the happiest baby and it's one of my favorite parts of the day!
Personality:
Your Papa had emergency triple bypass surgery about 2 weeks ago and so we spent about 5 days straight being in the hospital, and you were seriously the best baby ever. I don't remember you crying once. You played with lots of family and were just content to crawl around and play with whatever we had for you. I think somehow you knew that it wasn't about you and that something was going on, because I've never seen you on better behavior! haha. Your Papa couldn't WAIT to see you & when you finally got to see him, you smiled such a big smile. So thankful for the Lord's protection over your Papa so that you have many, many more years building that special bond with him.
It's really fun to watch you see people you know...you always greet them a huge smile, and generally a kiss too if they ask for it!
Look at that plank! You do a mean plank daily...haha :) You also make your body really stiff when you don't want to sit down, whether that's into your car seat, highchair or just on the floor. Your Cici says that your daddy did the same thing when he was little. Did you get ANY genes from me? ;)
You are about 98% crawling. You get to where you want to go, just not always by a normal crawl. You move your legs about 2x in the crawling position until you resort to a twist, roll, turn, or scoot.
Coby Drew-- you are such a delight. Getting to hang out with you all day every day is the best gig. Can you just always think I'm this cool to hang out with? ;)
Please know that you are my greatest accomplishment...
xox,
Naomi
