I've been going through the daily devotional "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young {I can't recommend this devotional ENOUGH}. This book is incredible and has really helped deepen my relationship with Christ. I love that it has something for everyday, and that the way it is written is so real life and so honest. She writes it from the viewpoint of God, so it is helpful in how God sees us.
Seriously- read this book!
Anyways, as I was going through it one day, there was one day that just really stood out to me. It not only spoke to me at the moment, but I felt like it was a great reminder to all of us, all the time. Especially us over-busy-i'm-in-control Americans :) Here is what it says from day September 17 (page 272):
"You will not find my peace by engaging in excessive planning: attempting to control what will happen to you in the future. That is a commonly practiced form of unbelief. When your mind spins with multiple plans, Peace may sometimes seem to be within your grasp; yet it always eludes you. Just when you think you have prepared for all possibilities, something unexpected pops up and throws things into confusion.
I did not design the human mind to figure out the future. That is beyond your capability. I crafted your mind for continual communication with Me. Bring Me all your needs, your hopes and fears. Commit everything into My care. Turn from the path of planning to the path of peace."
Talk about hitting home! I LOVE this. I have such a hard time with overly planning & control is one of the things I struggle with the most. I bolded & underlined some of my favorite phrases in this excerpt, just for myself :)
I am challenged to be in continual communication with God, and not to be in continual planning mode. God has {WAY} more for me than I can even dream to plan anyway! :)
