Last Tuesday we had a cardiologist appointment for Maddox. We hadn't see the cardiologist since December, so I was anxious to see what was going on. Since we had last been there, he has been weaned off all medication and doing great.
Let me tell you one thing...taking a 14 month old to the cardiologist where they need to sit still is next to impossible. He made a scene by screaming as soon as we laid him on the table, we had 4 people (including Nate + I ) holding him down.
We ended up having sit on my lap for part of it and that worked for some of it...but we held him down for a lot of it. I know they're used to it...but I still felt like he was the most difficult patient of the day :) hahhaa. Good thing he's cute.
ANYways...here's a quick little update on what we know.
The hole in his heart, while it looks like it might be closing...is doing so very slowly. Dr. said it looks very similar to what it did 6 months ago. While his symptoms are better (which is why he is off his medicine), his heart is still working hard and still working to close. He said that surgery is not out of the question but is also not a for sure thing.
Dr. Capannari recommended that we go down to Riley in 4-6 months to have another cardiologist look at his heart just for another opinion. While I 100% trust Dr. Capannari (y'all...people tell me often that he is the best), he said he just wants to make sure another doctor sees it the same way he does.
He thinks that we can wait and give it more time to close and that IF surgery (yes, still open heart surgery), is needed...that it would be closer to when Maddox is 3-4 years old. He wants to make sure that he isn't thinking this way and then in the future, we wish we would have done it sooner. So to Riley we will go, and we will see what another doctor says.
In the meantime, we just let Maddox be Maddox. Still no medication (his breathing is still so good!), he's tracking right on pace with milestones + his weight gain is steady. I feel confident that all is good. I tell myself to not stress until there's a reason to stress. Right now? No such reason.
We appreciate all the prayers for our boy.
Maddox Eric, my sunshine... I love you ;)
xox,
Naomi
