First Day of School 2020!

Here we are... the boys are officially back in school. It's definitely not what we THOUGHT it would look like.  We made the decision we felt was best for our family, so Maddox is in person 8am-3pm on Mondays & Wednesday and Jacoby is currently doing Kindergarten through virtual learning.

MADDOX

Maddox started about a week and a half before Jacoby did and it felt like he didn't skip a beat.  He's at the same school he was last year and even has the same teachers, so he went in confident & so ready to learn with friends & his teachers.  He has come home every day and the first thing he tells me is a new friend's name, which is just SO Maddox and I'm so proud of him for that!

Jacoby started a couple weeks ago and it's been a learning curve- for both him & I!

I love his teacher-- she's kind, friendly, and great at communication which I feel like is huge for this virtual learning experience. I was even on emails & phone calls with the vice principal and she was great at communication as well. With it being a new school and my first baby being in Kindergarten, I was a little unsure about how it all would go down, but it's been pretty good.  Jacoby is mostly cooperative as long as he gets breaks to play with his brothers, and he listens really well to his teacher & classmates on their calls. He is a perfectionist which comes with challenges, especially when mom is his teacher :) We've just had to figure out our new normal, and we've had some hiccups but are getting into a better rhythm every day.

While my heart breaks a little that he isn't getting the normal "you're a big boy and you get to go to school all day, eat lunch with friends, do all the independent things that come along with kindergarten", I DO think that this is teaching him (and ME) flexibility- which is something we work really hard on in this family! I'm confident in his teacher & school, and confident in Jacoby- it'll be a great year. We just got word that they are going to back to in person school on September 14th. While the virtual learning has let us hold on to summer a little longer, I think he'll learn a lot more in school and the social aspects of Kindergarten are so important, so I'm thankful he is going back. He's really excited to be in school with his teacher & friends, and since he knows his teacher & friends from his google classroom meets, I think he'll feel more comfortable going! Maybe the silver lining is that they already feel like they have friends & know their teacher?!

It's been a little weird having Jacoby & Kendry home on the days that Maddox is at school, it's rare that the middle child is the only one gone...but it's created a great bonding time for Jacoby & Kendry too! Who knows where we will be in a month, but I'm trying my best to see the good, be flexible, and encourage Jacoby that learning is what you make of it, and we'll get through it. Even though some days I'm running around trying to keep Kendry from getting into things, entertain Maddox (when he's home), and help Jacoby with school! 😜

Here's to the weirdest start of a school year.

Praying for a year of growth + confidence, fun in learning, and JOY in friendship.

But my biggest prayer is that they continue to be themselves, fight for what is right, and always, always, always are kind.

Also, now that it's September...it's fall in our world.  Maybe just fall with a side of swimming on the hot days!

xox,

Naomi
