This past Saturday we went to Chicago for the day and we had the best time. We ate brunch in town and then headed out to Chicago. The main reason we went was for the zoo lights but we managed to sneak some shopping in the afternoon too.
Chicago is one of our favorite cities. It's so pretty in the summer with Lake Michigan lining Lake Shore Dr, and in the fall all of the leaves are so beautiful...but Chicago around Christmas is beautiful too! There were lights all around, Christmas playing everywhere, and lots of decorated Christmas trees. We decided to go this weekend because even though it was cold, there was no snow, ice, or rain. In the Midwest--that's called a beautiful day! HA.
We parked and then walked a chilly walk while shopping. After a little shopping, we let the boys check out the Lego store.
Before our dinner reservations, we did our best to get out some of their energy. Racing is one of the boys very favorite things to do 😊

HAHA. Jacoby's face. It's hard being 4 years old sometimes😄
We warmed up with the best Italian food at Quartino. If you're ever in Chicago and want a really good restaurant with lots of amazing Italian food...hit up Quartino!
After dinner, we drove over and went to Lincoln Park Zoo. We loooove this zoo at any time of the year (bonus, it's always free) and I heard that the lights at Christmastime were fantastic. There were carolers/dancers, Christmas music, ice sculpting and SO many lights. We got popcorn and hot chocolate and looked around at all the lights. Jacoby's favorite lights were the giraffes and Maddox said his favorite was the light up tiger.
Jacoby ate his popcorn like this the whole time. haha. It kept sticking to his gloves and he did it like this once, I laughed.......and so he did it the rest of the night. ha!
It was super cold and even though we bundled up, Maddox still ended up getting really cold by the end of the night. He was insistent on someone carrying him with a "bebe" on...so between me, Nate + Papa, one of us was carrying 30 lb. Maddox most of the 2 hours we were there. We got them in the car, in their jammies and they were all asleep 10 minutes into our drive home.
That night on the drive home I told Nate that it was SO fun, but that I felt like I ran a marathon. Life with 3 kids is tiring sometimes 😉
I'm putting this on our yearly Christmas-y things to do list! It was such a hit and I think the kids will like it for many years to come. Oh Christmas...we LOVE you!
xox,
Naomi
